That's exactly what I did when I asked my parents how their childhood houses and farms were lain out and where each room was located. I even found out where bathtubs were located in the kitchen for warm water and where the cellar containing the ice block and straw were under the house. They also told me about when their relatives died, their bodies were laid out in the parlor instead of a funeral home! What a treat and how nice it was to compare the home layout plan with the actual picture of the house and imagine the rooms that lay beyond the windows! It was a lucky day for me when I had the smart idea to ask them about their childhood homes. It was a "reach" into the past that I will cherish forever.
